Three icon meme

A Three Icon Meme has been going around, reawakening a fun little journal game where someone points to three of your icons and you talk about them.

Over here, torch picked three of mine:



This was made by the generous and talented muccamukk, showing Sinbad and Gunnar from the sadly short-lived "action-adventure fantasy family saga" TV series, Sinbad. It was a lovely show, filmed in Malta--it didn't have the highest budget, but they did a good job putting the money they had on screen.

Also, eye-candy-wise, phwoar. :D Sinbad, our hero, is on the left; Gunnar, a melancholy ex-Viking, is on the right, gazing soulfully at Sinbad as is his wont. And thanks to muccamukk's clever choice of frame, the slash symbol is even in there. What more could I need?



My newest icon, courtesy of trascendenza! I totally needed some Invisible Man (the early-2000s TV show) icons in my life--especially just in time for the Invisible Man Watchathon trascendenza is hosting! Masterpost, and keep an eye on the tag watchathon. \o/

This ep of Invisible Man, "Flowers for Hobbes", is AMAZING and very likely my favorite. At this moment, Darien is holding an injection syringe in his mouth, so he can take his jacket off, so he can GIVE HIMSELF A SHOT THAT WILL SAVE BOBBY'S LIFE BUT KILL DARIEN. He doesn't just bluff, either--he gives himself the shot. And right before he does, he says that line to Bobby (who is currently out of his mind), "I'm pretty sure there's one thing about me you don't know." YES, DARIEN, BUT NOW HE FINDS OUT, AND WE DO TOO. ;______; ♥_____♥



Sebastian and Charles, from the old "Brideshead Revisited" miniseries, looking out to sea with their arms around each other. I made this one myself, and though I don't have much in the way of aesthetic skills, I ended up very happy with it--I find the color palette of that shot pleasant and soothing, and I liked how I cropped it, including the amount & angle of the umbrella.

I don't use it much if ever to refer to Sebastian and Charles per se--more often it's about a virtual hug, being there and looking out at things with someone.

I always feel very calm when I see your Brideshead Revisited icon so obviously the colours are working!

Well, now I feel silly - I always thought Icon #3 was from The Persuaders. That just looks like something they'd do, you know?

Not silly at all! I'd never thought of that, but once you mentioned it I TOTALLY see it--small Danny and tall Brett, the dandified umbrella, the complete lack of personal space. ♥____♥ Absolutely something they'd do.

Oh, wow. I love that Sinbad icon! That's...utterly perfect.

Ooh, and I think you showed me that very episode of Invisible Man some years ago. *g* Now, there's another show I'd like to watch more of one day. (You do have that effect on me.)

Hah! I never know what that icon was with the hug; good to know now. I totally associate it with you. *g*

And yes I did indeed show you "Flowers For Hobbes"...I couldn't help it, it's so much absolute wonderfulness boiled down into one episode, and that climax, whew!

Oh, I didn't even realise that was from Brideshead Revisited! Young Anthony Andrews was so pretty, but I don't know that I ever finished the series, (the book made me sad). That icon is beautiful, and has such perfect mood to it.

Pick 3?

I think having them turned away and so unidentifiable ends up making them more into figures or archetypes, which is what I was more interested in for an icon. Because yeah, the miniseries gets very sad as well...I vastly prefer the early part, about possibilities and discovery and falling in love (though of course knowing the end, even the early part carries its later sadness ;___; ). And agreed, Anthony Andrews was luminous, while also so good at bringing that air of dissipation to his angelic look.

The blues and the greys of the linen and the ocean and the sky, ahhh.

And I totally recognize your K-pop icons! Or at least, the various permutations of DBSK, phwoar. ♥ I'm not as familiar with shinhwa.

Icon talk, yay! I love seeing iterations of this pop up all over my... okay, silly-but-serious, I miss the word flist, because dwircle just sounds ridiculous. The silly predominates because who cares about my feelings for a word constructed for a very niche concept; the serious is only for me, personally, because this reluctance to use the word dwircle is one of the things I blame for my lack of posting. I'd probably blame something else if I didn't have that, and really I could just say reading list, and this was a very long digression that had nothing to do with icons!

But I agree with Terri that your Brideshead icon also brings up Persuaders association, which is honestly one reason I picked it -- it's enjoyable, to me, that something as far from Persuaders as BR would evoke thoughts of it.

(It was hard to pick just three, I tell you. *g*)

I'm enjoying it too, I've learned many things, plus I just like hearing people talk about why they use what they use, why they like it, etc.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone use dwircle--not even official DW FAQs and whatnot. Which makes sense, because it's not really called a "Dreamwidth Circle" as a phrase in order to portmanteau in the same way as "Friends List" did. I figure just circle would suit, or list, or 'in my feed' I guess? Or use flist if you like--I certainly have iirc, without thinking. Unless you feel that would be too mysterious to the people who never got going on LJ.

It's so funny and in hindsight makes perfect sense, the Brideshead-Persuaders associations! I mean yes, way opposite in tone and timbre (and cheerfulness)...but on the other hand, way similar in body language and couple-vibes. And the 'me and him facing the world' is there, just with a much more optimistic slant to it. ♥
