Dear Yuletide Writer!

If more thoughts about my fic preferences would be helpful, here are some!
I prefer slash if you can manage it, but please don't feel constricted by the term. For me, it's about depth of emotion/connection/intimacy, not about sex in and of itself. Lots of times a word, a gesture, or a glance across a room can be slashier than any sex scene. But in any case, I'm interested in the characters, first and foremost, and the deeper connections between them, however you'd like to approach that. (Though I figure, it's fair to ask that the story be at least as slashy as the show/movie itself, right?) (Okay, granted, slashiness is in the eye of the beholder.) (...but still. :D)
Some of my other fave tropes or approaches: First times. Happy or at least hopeful endings. Highly competent characters. Showing-not-telling. Hurt/comfort. The slow/gradual unfolding and revelation of needs and desires. Subtle communication with few or no words needed--as well as the ability to say one thing and clearly mean another. Intimacy (and not just sexual, but in the warp and weft of daily life). Chosen family. Feelings/needs/vulnerabilities from deep inside that take time and effort to uncover.
In all of the fandoms in which I selected pairings, I love both members of the partnership equally, and I especially love how each of them brings such different and complementary things to the relationship, together making a whole that's greater than the sum of its parts.
If you're the sort of writer who'd like to hear a few more thoughts on my chosen characters, here are some details about my fandoms this year (including where to find source material)--I Spy, Peacemakers, Rubicon, and Trapeze.
I SPY
It's out on DVD, it's available for rental/Netflixing, the entire series is up on Hulu, and the first 5 episodes of season 1 are officially up on YouTube, thanks to the DVD distributor.
I love the protectiveness and trust Scotty and Kelly have for each other; everything's better when they're together, no matter how dark the situation might look. I love the way they speak in their own secret language, and the way they can argue, even fight, and get past it without grudges. I love the way they have each other's back, have faith in each other's strength and endurance, and know each other's limits. I love the natural, unselfconscious intimacy they have, and the way they've become each other's family.
PEACEMAKERS
Not out on DVD yet, sadly--except this one time I saw the pilot on DVD for sale somewhere in South America!--but all episodes are presently up on Hulu. (If you can't see Hulu and need help acquiring it, just talk toelynross as an anonymous intermediary. She can contact me, and I can get her some links to pass along to you.)
I love the way Stone and Finch moved so quickly from conflict to cooperation, and the way they seem to be such opposites, but connect so deeply underneath. I love the way they surprise each other, and the way they fascinate each other. I love how they get so devoted and passionate about their jobs, running in tandem on a trail, working to use the best of the past and the future to solve the case. I love how they instinctively reach out to comfort and support each other, even if they have some trouble figuring out how to manage it. I love Jared's clam personality, vulnerability covered with a hard-won shell, and the way we saw Finch gradually getting under that shell, bit by bit.
RUBICON
I had heard it was up on iTunes while it was still on the air, though I don't know from personal experience. (ETA: confirmed: it's still up on iTunes!) If it isn't there, during this lull between cancellation and any possible DVD release, torrents or other uploads seem like they'd be your best bet. If you have any trouble finding it, talk toelynross as an anonymous intermediary--she can contact me, and I can get her some links to pass along to you.
Kale Ingram is fascinating--mysterious, but with hints and glimpses of personal life and possible backstories that send my imagination into overdrive. The sheer levels of competence and sang-froid are of course fantastic, but while he's clearly extraordinary, he's not flawless or a superhero, and I love that too. He's a survivor. He has emotions but also a very high level of control over them. He doesn't trust anyone...does he? He can be protective and give careful advice, and then turn around and be extremely manipulative, with no flinching or sign of remorse. He's a guy who gets casually cruised while out bringing home the shopping, and then turns right around and handles the disposal of someone he knew very well (and what was that history between them?). I just want to quote practically every line out of his mouth. So anything you want to explore about Kale...oh boy am I on board.
TRAPEZE

Mike and Tino live with the throttle turned all the way up, it seems--a blend of artist, athlete, and daredevil, with the intensities and perfectionism of all of those things. I love the way they started to connect from the very first moment, despite Mike's resistance and Tino's hard-sell. I love how skilled they are in their craft, and how intensely they work and concentrate on making it better. I love how passionate they are, how deeply they feel (about the act, but even more, about each other), and their sheer delight and admiration for one another. I love Mike's pain, yearning, and hard won knowledge/experience; I love Tino's courage, eagerness, and tenacity. I love how, when they're both focused on the work/craft/art that they live and breathe, smaller concerns disappear: from a bloody nose to a broken heart, it ends up fading away before the power and beauty of the act they can bring to life together.
