PFL/msmoat passed away this morning

I'm sorry to report that msmoat died this morning. Though I'm glad to say that she was at home, where she wanted to be, with family, and with a beloved friend taking the best care of her.

przed and I visited her right before New Year's Eve, and she had some very happy memories of all the people she met and spent time with via fandom. She really was something special.

Icon in her honor--for her love of the lads, and all the enjoyable and fulfilling creativity they, and fandom, sparked for her.

przed had the feeling we should go asap, and she was right—we were in time to take a nice walk along the river with her, so she could show us the things she loved most about her neighborhood. And then we had a whole long day of relaxed talking and snacking and talking some more, like we always did. It was a great visit, though of course in the worst of circumstances.

I was so sad when I saw the news this morning that it took a while to even process it.

I'm so glad that the two of you and Amanda got to see her as fandom was always such an important aspect of her life. ♥

Yes, agreed. It feels impossible.

We talked about you during the visit, were your ears burning? Old Fashion Cupcake was the last thing we watched together, right before her diagnosis, and we talked about how you were a great pusher recommender.

We had very similar tastes in what we were looking for in a canon so I always made a point of letting her know about things I was certain she'd enjoy.

It's still sinking in. I'm going to miss her so much.

I’m so very VERY sorry to hear this news, even as I’m picturing her stepping into the great convention in the sky while everyone there throws confetti to welcome her. Reading about your lovely visit was a joy. May her memory be a blessing. 💖

Aw thank you. I love to picture that too, now that you mention it! Snow, an old-time fixture in Pros fandom, who Beth knew well, passed not all that long before her. So now I see Beth stepping in to find Snow already holding court and organizing the place. ♥

Such sad news. I'm glad she was able to be home with her family and friend when she passed.

I'm so sorry. I know you guys were close for a lot of years, and I'm really glad you and przed got to have such a lovely last visit with her.

Pre-pandemic, another friend (who wrote as Irene) and I used to get together with PFL at my place in Minneapolis every so often for a mini-bash, talking about Pros (and other stuff) and watching episodes. We hadn't done it for several years -- partly pandemic, partly just out of the habit.

We did a version of that again with PFL at her place in early December, and it was such a good time. We talked about life, and fandom, and Pros, and watched the episode First Night. We'd hoped to do it again in January, but it was not to be. But I'm so glad we had that last visit.

I'll miss her a lot.

Those were the very best kinds of visits! When I lived in Madison, she'd drive down and stay for a weekend and we'd do the same sorts of things, and take walks and talk about writing, and help each other unknot any current story problems. They left me (and she said her too) creatively refreshed. She was always such good company.

I'm so sorry about your friend. Visiting her was such a good idea and I'm glad that was possible and that she enjoyed it so much. Fandom friends should live FOREVER dammit.
