[community profile] hc_bingo is having Amnesty Mini-Challenges from February through May. And the February Mini-Challenge gives you a little four-square 'postage stamp' containing 3 h/c prompts and one Wild Card square (prompt of your choice), which you're supposed to include all in one fill.

Take a gander at my postage stamp! (not sure why it won't display as its original square, but oh well):

WILD CARD
sacrifice
family
hiding an injury /
illness

...oh man, it's like the randomization algorithm knows me. :D

Even though [community profile] hc_bingo was just about to turn from the regular posting period to the amnesty period, I still requested a card. Because I found it so inspirational last time!

Although I noticed only today that, although I eventually completed a bingo across the bottom row of last year's card with five stories (serial killers: Peacemakers, exhaustion: Almost Human, cages: Rejseholdet, hostile climate: Sinbad, drugged: The Sting), I never did post links to my bingo fills on the official comm. Why? WHOOOO KNOWWWWWS. o____O

So here's this year's card: )

That center row across looks nice: fire, imprisonment, [wild card], bites, torture. Or the row right beneath it: deals with demons, brainwashing/deprogramming, hugs, hallucinations, begging. I mean, you know how much I love brainwashing :D :D

Really, most of the squares seem totally doable for me. Not sure what I'd pick for "mercy killing", though, hmm. Given my general tendency not to kill off the main characters. I mean...attempted mercy killing, maybe? I-have-to-mercy-kill-my-beloved-partner-oh-wait-no-I-don't? Mercy killing of an OC?

And tentacles. Tentacles. Hmm. I admit, I always wonder why tentacles is on a Hurt/Comfort Bingo card. I mean, they fit just fine on the more general Trope Bingo card, but H/C is hard to fathom. All the other squares are obvious engines of either hurt or comfort. But tentacles? You can work them into either aspect, I suppose, but they don't really help you figure out which one or how. And tentacle-sex is not my kink, so it'd have to be something else. Calamari...aliens...sea creature attacks a ship...fighting naturalist dissecting a cephalopod...

I signed up for [community profile] hc_bingo last year, and got the most promising card...but what with one thing and another (most especially the great big Dreaded Project I was completing), I only completed one fill with no bingo in sight.

Luckily, [personal profile] arduinna has reminded me that 1) it's time for another bingo round, and 2) there's no penalty for not posting anything last round! Whew. I appreciate that, and now that I no longer have the anvil around my neck, this time will definitely be Bingo Time!

I am rubbing my hands gleefully over my card... )

Oh man, so good. SO GOOD. And so very delightfully compliant with various canons I have in mind! I mean, look at the very righthand column going down... "depression, nervous breakdown, unconscious, cuddling, drugged". Around here, we call that Tuesday I Spy episode 3x12, "The Lotus Eater". (Which one could view on Hulu.com here, if one were in the US or used a proxy server.) The second column down, "confession in desperate situation, medication, dystopia, job-related trauma, exhaustion" is a dead ringer for Person of Interest ep. 1x18, "Identity Crisis" ("Good night, Nathan." !!!), which was the episode I posted this about (nonspoilery emotional reactions ahoy).

Not, of course, that a bingo line needs to be--or even should be--all from one canon. But I just love seeing patterns on the card that sound like they come right out of a show. It says a little something about my preferred entertainment choices, I suppose. *g*

Also: I love how "hugs" is its own prompt. In the giant list of prompts, it's been easy for me to overlook some of the simpler entries, especially the ones that run counter to many of the rest by being focused on the C rather than the H--two of which I got on my card, in fact (hugs and cuddling). \o/

I have been gently and encouragingly peer-pressured into playing in this round of [community profile] hc_bingo. My goal is to get some practice writing shorter pieces more comfortably--although, damn this awesome card, there's a row or two that suggests itself as one of the "5 prompts turn into one story" extras, which urges me to go long, go long...

My hc_bingo card )

I'm presently mulling over the squares, mixing and matching them with fandoms I'd like to write. [personal profile] arduinna and I were talking about how certain characters are just so flexible, h/c-wise--Kelly Robinson from I Spy, for instance. I mean, plenty of these things happen to him in canon. So if you're stumped for someone to get amnesia while hiding an injury in a hostile climate? GIVE HIM A CALL.
