Summary:

Stephen took hold of Jack's face again, but not this time to cherish. He held him still—Jack making a mild complaining sound—and moved back far enough for the lantern-light to fall upon Jack and bring him into focus. There—there, on his jaw, where Stephen's hands had grabbed him—a faint smudge of the silvery dust. And on the side of his neck where the shirt lay loose, another trace of it, glittering like assassins' knives; Stephen remembered how he had combed all of his treacherous fingers through Jack's hair, stealthily savouring him. Contaminating him.

I am so grateful for getting this assignment, this particular year...recent setbacks really had knocked me flat, with all kinds of trouble concentrating or even sometimes getting out of bed. And besides the reassurance and comfort of being able to write for someone who shares my love for these guys, I also think having the chance to spend time with Jack and Stephen was good for me.

I am always remarking how in the Aubrey/Maturin canon, music scenes are love scenes. Here I really got to double down on that. ♥

I wondered if that might be you--the summary paragraph was so amazingly beautiful I thought "I bet, since this isn't FOR Dorinda, if she was the one who wrote it." I'm still miles away from finishing Yuletide (can you believe I have only read a few things at this point?) but am so looking forward to this.
