Frolicking through a field of Yuletide tags

Yuletide signups are going on even as we speak!

As well as the three I nominated--I Spy (TV), The Sting, and Peacemakers--there are other tempting targets in the tag set. Someone else nominated Invisible Man, which is a relief. Almost Human, Sinbad (2012), and Vikings are there. Rubicon too, sigh! Space: Above and Beyond, which I recently re-watched. On the older-TV side, there's Wild Wild West. Movie-wise, there's Spy Game, Holiday (1938), Hot Fuzz, Talk of the Town, Casablanca. And so much more!

Decisions, decisions. Hmmmm.

Tried to offer mostly movies to curb my impending insanity. We'll see what fun/hellish form of research I shall convince myself is necessary this year.

How does S:AAB hold up?

Very well! Except, we did get an inadvertent kick out of the Angry Angels' off-duty civilian outfits, I believe when our heroes first see them in the bar (or similarly). Because they're the roughest, toughest, baddest mofos in the Corps, and IIRC they're kind of in light-wash mom-jeans. Some costume choices in the science-fiction field in general might have a slightly more timeless feel, but that was not one of them.

Story-wise it was still good, still interesting and enjoyable. I don't remember having any special-effect complaints, although granted that I wasn't looking for any. And these days it kind of feels like gender-wise it's better/more forward-thinking than a lot of stuff on right now.

I was surprised to find myself less irritated by West than I once was, although I still occasionally told him to shut his face. I guess maybe this time around I was more aware of his youth/callowness, and how he actually does change over time. My affection for McQueen has only increased. It can scarcely be textually rendered by this point.

If it could only be produced today! It's tailor-made for a short-season pay-cable prestige series.

Except, if it was redone today, Vansen and Damphousse would probably be sexed way up (catflightsuits, anyone?), and boning all the dudes in the squad. Because it would be someone douchy like JJ Abrams or Damon Lindelof doing the reboot. /o\
