Good news, everyone, we can now use the at sign (@) plus a Dreamwidth username (runpunkrun) to make such usernames as runpunkrun. It works in entries and comments:

Pushed some more tweaks to hopefully improve the Android/mobile experience on comment replies. Also, you can now use "@" followed by a username to refer to people in comments/posts. -M

Check out the comments in runpunkrun 's post! The thread here shows how you can use username.sitename with an @ sign, to change the symbol/link to other sites like LJ, Twitter, and AO3. So easy to type!

Me too! Thank goodness for punk...I admit, I don't usually read through DW announcements in any detail, so I would've missed it.
