Yuletide Reveal: Rubicon, Peacemakers
Jan. 1st, 2011 11:51 amI wrote two stories for Yuletide again--I think I'm prone to doing that (ooh, this 'share' function on AO3 is pretty neat!):

Summary: Where the marshal lives and works, there is an unfinished room.
I had a great time, even if my natural (or at least comfortable) writing pace was squeezed by this year's shorter deadline. It gave me a perfectexcuse reason for rewatching all of my beloved-and-cancelled Rubicon, and for trying to get into Kale's head, which was a challenge and a pleasure. I'm not surprised that all of this year's Rubicon stories dealt with Kale--the Onion/A.V. Club recaps of the show ended up referring to him as one of the best characters on TV, and he's a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma, covered in an expensive wardrobe and an indecipherable smile.
sakana17 very kindly betaed for me, which was ideal, especially since she's the one who got me into the show in the first place.
And I had always wanted to write Peacemakers, that CSI-in-the-old-west that came along just a bit too early for the boom of original cable shows; I have two or three embryonic story ideas floating around, though this wasn't one of them. The fact that it was
sakana17's request that went to pinch-hit just made it destiny:
sakana17 wrote Peacemakers for
arduinna in Yuletide 2005, then
arduinna wrote Peacemakers for me in Yuletide 2007...now it was my turn to continue the slo-mo round robin. *g*
marycrawford and
elynross whipped it into shape at short notice, and I got to enjoy the special hilarity that comes from secretly writing for someone you've already exchanged Yuletide betas with.
I'm not much of a one for resolutions per se, but I would like to get myself to post more this year, so I can talk a bit about both of these shows and why I love them (and these characters) so much. A little squee always goes down sweet.
