More (Comfort And) Joy Day
Jan. 13th, 2011 10:57 amI wasn't sure what to do for More Joy Day, especially without much prep. But then I remembered that there's definitely something I can share that's given me a lot of pleasure recently. Perhaps a little bit out of season, but maybe now that we're past Christmas (and, for that matter, Epiphany), your ears won't be as tired of carols.
This is the video for Annie Lennox's recent version of "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen". I love the arrangement, especially the use of the djembe. But even more, I adore the video itself and its design, with that very-early-film look, like the Kinetoscope and the Zoetrope (the very final shot is literally zoetrope). Not to mention that as the video progresses, the interpretation becomes more and more pagan, which works in really interesting ways.
So, if you haven't seen it, check it out! (...Yeah, there we go, now I've totally given myself the earworm again.)
