I have my DW reading page subscribed to the RSS feeds for some blogs and whatnot, which is very handy. (And recommended! It brings various readables all to one central place so I can wallow in them.)

The languagehat linguistics blog (dw's rss feed page is https://languagehat-feed.dreamwidth.org/) linked today to a great article on Voice of America about the "rez accent" (Native American English), and some of its linguistic characteristics. Really interesting, and with some links to video as well.

I'm linking via languagehat because on that blog, unlike so many other places, the comments are worth reading!

Oh, how cool! (And it's literally the (a) Voice of America!) Thanks for linking.

ETA: Also I have now also subscribed to that feed 😀

Great article! I wondered about the rez accent, because the First Nations kids I grew up with, living beside a Northern Ontario Anishnaabe reserve, sounded a lot like the Native American characters I see now on shows like Reservation Dogs, and was wondering how the accent seemed to cross North America.

Most of my RSS feeds on DW are set up for my tiny fandoms on AO3 - there aren't enough new stories to take the time to check AO3 regularly for them.

Not awkward at all and, hey, always happy to share The Way (*g*) with a fellow small fandom fan.

Go to the works page for the fandom you're interested in. In the top right hand corner, you'll see the 'RSS Feed' button. Right Click on it and 'Copy Link.' Basically, you're fetching the number assigned to that fandom by AO3.

Go to your profile page. Under the 'Read' dropdown list, click 'Feeds.'

Under 'Add Feed' paste your 'copy link' into the Feed URL: box. Hit the Add Feed button. IF someone else has made a feed already for it, that'll pop up and you just subscribe.

If no one's created a feed for it, the next page will say 'Create Feed Account.' Come up with a name for it you can easily identify if you want to sort through your feeds later, and hit the Create Feed Account button. Subscribe.

Presto! It'll now throw any new story up on your reading list.

Enjoy!

I want to be able to potentially check out any new story I see but it's far too time consuming to check them regularly on AO3 for very little payoff.
